Come Together: Lennon's artwork shows a delightful whimsy.

John Lennon challenged us to imagine there’s no hunger. So it’s fitting that this weekend’s exhibition of the former Beatle’s drawings, sketches and writings will help raise money for the region’s main food bank — Second Harvest.

The Artwork of John Lennon” runs Friday through Sunday at 520 S. Park Ave. in downtown Winter Park (next to Café de France).

Yoko Ono, who turns 80 this month, established the touring exhibition to benefit nonprofit organizations in the cities where it’s shown. In two decades of doing so, she has helped to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity.

“It’s a sharing of peace and love,” she told the Sentinel when the exhibition last appeared in Central Florida two years ago. “I think John would have liked it.”

Lennon was murdered in 1980. And though he is primarily famous for his music, he attended Liverpool College of Art in his youth.

In his too-short life, he created extensive drawings, caricatures and sketches. Dozens of them will be featured in the exhibition, which showcases Lennon’s more whimsical side.

The event runs Friday from noon to 8 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. A $2 donation is suggested. The funds benefit Second Harvest, which collects, stores and distributes donated food to more than 500 partner agencies in six Central Florida counties.
